This is incredible! Listening now, and it really flows well musically, too.

I don't want to be the annoying guy suggesting more songs, but a couple that popped in my head:

"Song For Dan Treacy" by MGMT. This song is about the Television Personalities founder, and I think it sort of references their "I Know Where Syd Barrett Lives" that you have on the playlist.

"So Far Around the Bend" by The National. This has the line "You've been hummin' in a daze forever, waiting for Pavement to get back together". It's kind of interesting, too, because it appeared on the Red Hot compilation Dark Was the Night which was kind of the '00's version of Red Hot's No Alternative which contains Pavement's song that name checks REM and that you took the name of the playlist from.

Again, this playlist is so amazing. Thanks for doing this.

yeah I forgot about that MGMT song! I picked the National song that mentions the Afghan Whigs instead as I already had more than enough Pavement related content. There’s also a pretty funny song called “I wish I was Stephen Malkmus” by beabadoobee that I almost included.

That is very impressive! I think my favorite section is, "The Unexpected Minutemen To Dylan Pipeline:"

I feel like there should be a Hank Williams section given the sheer number of songs that reference him: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_tributes_to_Hank_Williams#Songs

thanks! yeah at a certain point while I was putting this together, I realized that you could make another version of this with only country, folk and blues songs

Indeed. I also remembered that Paul Burch (who I mentioned in response to this note https://substack.com/@djfalkor/note/c-128488683 ) did a concept album about Jimmie Rodgers -- https://www.paulburch.com/the-story-of-meridian-rising

I think Lucinda Williams references Bob Dylan referencing Neil Young in "Ventura."

Dylan and Neil have to be two of the most frequently referenced artists in song of all time - there were several other examples I came across.

I realized I overlooked the National giving the Cowboy Junkies a name check on “Eucalyptus” - I apologize for the error.
