Random Rules: What to listen to when it's raining
The most important thing missing from coverage of the LA storm: a good soundtrack
This is the view from my desk, it’s been raining for about 27 hours straight in LA as I’m writing this, with two more days of rain ahead of us. My cats are getting very restless. My kids are trying to find any excuse to stay home from school. As someone who grew up in Florida where torrential downpours are just a part of everyday life for a good portion of the year, it’s somewhat comical to see a rainstorm get covered on national news, to the point where I’m getting txts from friends on the east coast saying “Y’all ok??” LA is just not built to deal with rain, that’s the big difference. Anyways, the important thing for our purposes is to make sure you all have the appropriate playlist to match what’s going on as this atmospheric river continues to flow above us. These songs were selected mainly to fit the mood of being cooped up inside for days on end, and partially because they’re actually about rain, clouds or other weather phenomenon. I welcome your suggestions for this one, and plan on adding to it - leave your ideas in the comments!
I realized another slowcore playlist I made awhile back before starting this substack would also work well as a soundtrack for this week, although it might be a little too depressing for some of you (consider this a TW):
