Ten years ago, I came up with the idea for my PR company, Force Field to put together a playlist of songs about heartache for Valentine’s Day, with all of our clients contributing their picks, to keep things interesting! Everyone we talked to was very into the idea, and this became an annual tradition that has now lasted a full decade. Breakup songs are a lot more interesting than love songs to me, and let’s face it, they are what most people end up listening to by the end of the day on Valentine’s Day anyways.
Shortly after we launched the series, Spotify even launched their own copycat playlist and outlets as significant as The Fader and Okayplayer wrote up our mixtapes as recommended listens. I’ve never really gathered all of the mixes in one place before, so I thought now was a good time to do it since we’ve hit such a significant milestone in the series.
